Kirin Subheading

A dedication to Japanese craftsmanship

KIRIN was founded in 1888, in Yokohama, Japan, on the conviction of its founders that beer would become popular with Japanese people. The founders believed that brewing is an art created by people. Using state-of-the-art brewing machines, steam engines and the expert skills of international brewers, KIRIN beer was launched. For more than a century KIRIN has embodied the Japanese spirit of ingenuity and craftsmanship, respecting time-honoured traditions that harness the purity of ingredients to create premium international beers. Today it is one of Japan’s favourite local beers and is globally successful in 40 countries.

KIRIN beer uses a unique brewing method called First Press to deliver purity that you can taste.

Quick Facts

  • The animal featured on the bottles is the Qilin, a mythical creature of Chinese origin with a dragon head and a deer body. Called ‘Kirin’ in Japanese, this animal is a very popular symbol of good fortune throughout Asia. First used on Kirin Lager beers, it is a logo with over 130 years of history.
  • While most brewers use wort from the first and second filtrations, Kirin Ichiban is the only mass-market beer brewed only from the wort from the first filtration.
  • Ichiban means “first” in Japanese, and refers to the first filtration process in KIRIN’s beer making.
