When James Squire was caught stealing the ingredients to brew the colony’s first beer, he was punished with 150 lashes of a whip. Thankfully for us, James Squire remained undeterred and kept on brewing, so James Squire named their iconic pale ale in honour of his drive and hustle.

James Squire’s brewery – the first in the penal colony – was at Kissing Point surrounded by lush orchards. Inspired by this, today James Squire crushes fresh apples to brew a cider that is as delicious as it is refreshing.
